Keith J McGregor
Performance Coaching and Leadership
Rock Climbing Instructor and Mountain leader
Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach
I am an accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCC) with the UKSCA and have been delivering S&C for over 10 years to a wide variety of sports athletes, including Rock Climbers and Wheelchair users.
I work out of the Strength and Conditioning Unit in UCLan Sports Arena in Preston, but will come to your local gym, home or sports center.
I practice Human Movement linked in with yoga to develop strength and mobility to create a holistically robust athlete. Using these techniques, it is possible to adapt to any individual and activity regardless of ability and strength, it’s for everyone not just highly trained individuals or teams.
I am also a qualified Rock-Climbing Instructor and Mountain Leader with the MTA. I am working towards the Rock Climbing and Mountain Instructors (RCMI) award and have over 30 years of rock climbing and mountaineering experience at home and abroad.
I work throughout Great Britain and being based in the Northwest means I am perfectly positioned to work in the Lake District, North Wales, Yorkshire Dales and Scotland predominantly. I spend much of my time in these areas guiding and coaching, but will travel to all parts of the UK’s beautiful regions.
I have a Masters degree in Sports Coaching as well as a First class Honors Degree in the same subject. This has really helped me understand the theories of coaching and the ability to put them into context and practical application, whether on the mountain or in the Gym.
A lecturer and course leader in Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Sport and PE at the University of Central Lancashire in the School of Sport and Health Sciences, I teach, assess and deliver practical’s within the outdoors and sports coaching.
I am currently completing a PhD in Climbing Psychology. Using a qualitative methodology, I am investigating Risky Play and Creative Fear of Rock Climbers. The research is aimed at understanding fear and why some people do risky activities for recreation and stress release.
